Best Android Apps & Games This Week [First week of August]

Already consumed our previous list with the best new Android apps and games? Well, then it’s time to have a look at some of the newest Android apps and games that have appeared since that moment but also at some more that didn’t make it into the previous roundup. So go ahead and grab your devices and get downloading!

Native Clipboard
Copying and pasting is better than it used to be on Android, but it still isn’t ideal – just like Windows, you can only keep one bit of text at a time saved in the “copy” cache. Also just like Windows, several apps have sprung up to improve this functionality, most notably Clipper. Native Clipboard handles most of the same functions – primarily keeping a saved history of all copied text – but adds some impressive UI tweaks to make using it even easier. Read More

Angry Birds 2
Rovio Entertainment, the company behind Angry Birds, has released the sequel to its highly addictive game for Android five years after the original game was launched to mobile gamers who eagerly and angrily tried to defeat the evil pigs by using birds to shoot at them.

Angry Birds has been one of the most popular mobile games, and we’ve seen its several versions ever since it launched back in 2009. Now, it is back in the form of a sequel – Angry Birds 2 – on Android and iOS. The game available for download on Google Play store and Apple App store. It is a free app, but comes with in-app purchases. With over 1.5 billion downloads, the Angry Birds franchise certainly needs no introduction. The only question that remains is: How many of you are going to download Angry Birds 2?

Periscope
The latest foray into the social world is Periscope, an app designed to allow for bite-sized streaming sessions, and controlled environments in which to peer into people’s daily activities. Whether this is a fad or not is irrelevant, as mankind has spoken and their voice is loud and clear—digital interaction is here to stay.

Since Periscope comes compliments of the folks over at Twitter, you’ll have to link your account before you even gain access to browse the app—so get on that if you haven’t already. Once you’re in, you’re greeted with a soothing interface that’s extremely easy to use by way of tabs, and you’ll be viewing your first stream in no time. What is there to actually watch? At first glance I mostly found gaming streams that are typically on Twitch, and…sandwich eating.

Vainglory
Vainglory is, at its core, a MOBA. That stands for Multiplayer Online Battle Arena, for the uninitiated. Basically, two teams of three players attack down a lane in an effort to take out the opposing side's headquarters. You'll need to chew through waves of small enemies, tough defensive towers, and aggressive enemy players to do so. Along the way you'll earn experience points, level up, improve abilities, and acquire gear.

That fundamental formula is mixed up by Vainglory in a few ways. Instead of the usual 3 lanes, there's only one. In addition to tougher neutral enemies in the jungle area outside of the lane, there are also two mines, one on either side. Capturing these mines will improve the quality of your minions spawning. There is also a gold mine dab smack in the middle which offers the controlling team boatloads of gold if they can hold onto it for long enough. The gold mine also spawns a gigantic kraken which, if defeated, will join your side and plow through your enemies.

Microsoft Hyperlapse Mobile
Microsoft has released a new app for Android devices that will let you turn any video into a smooth hyperlapse.

If you're interested in creating super-smooth hyperlapse videos on your Android phone, then you'll want to check out this latest app from Microsoft. The app isn't much to look at yet, but it works as advertised and it's still in the beta stage. What do you think of Microsoft's ability to transform your videos into hyperlapses? Share your thoughts in the comments.

Monospace Writer
Monospace is a minimal writing app for Android that removes all the distractions and lets you focus on your writing. The app has a stark white on gray or black on white UI options, and minimal formatting styles to keep things simple. Monospace supports Dropbox to sync across devices. The app is currently in beta.

Yahoo Livetext
Livetext is an interesting new app where you chat with your friends via text but can see a video feed of them as you type. The video is muted so the only way to communicate is via typing but you can see what your friends are doing and their reactions in real time. Perhaps not everyone's cup of tea but interesting nonetheless.

Kono
We’ve got tons of things to do in these super busy times and our smartphones are of great help in many situations. Kono is a new Android app which is described as the world’s best virtual assistant that schedules your meetings for you, be it a conference call, lunch, or a hang out. It’s really easy to start using the app – you just need to type in what you want to do and who you want to invite, then you select what times and locations work for you based on Kono’s recommendations and in the end you just send the invite! Have a look at the video from above to see how the app works.
