Back in 2013, Motorola announced the first generation Moto G which went on to become a huge success in India and many countries were it was available. The second generation Moto G went official in September last year with upgraded specs. Few days back, the company has launched the 3rd generation Moto G or Moto G3 with upgraded specs.
The Moto G 3rd-gen ships in a white and purple rectangular box with the phone’s image and branding on top.The flip-open lid peels off to unveil the much-hyped device, resting up on another tray. Beneath the tray you will a pair of earphones, a USB cable, a two-pin adapter, warranty card, user manual and other standard documentation.
First of all, this leak confirms most of what we already knew. We previously saw a picture of what we thought was a dummy unit identical to these pictures, suggesting the phone will sport IPX7 waterproofing, a 2470 mAh battery, a quad-core (assumably Snapdragon) processor, expandable storage via microSD card, a 13-megapixel rear camera, a 5-megapixel front camera, and the usual 4G LTE support.
It has a 5 inch of HD 720p (1280×720 display which offers good viewing angles and viewing experience. Display may not compete with full HD and quad-HD display but it will still offer good experience. Screen is also protected with Gorilla Glass. So, you do not need to worry about normal falls and scratches.
Moto G 3rd Gen runs on Android 5.1.1 offering near-stock Android experience with few Motorola specific apps. Software performance is good and offer lag-free experience while using the device.
Camera of the smartphone has been improved. It has 13 megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and dual LED flash. It also has a 5 megapixel front camera. So, we see upgrade in both cameras as compared it with previous generation Moto G. Both camera performs really good as per the given specifications. Camera sensor is same which was also used in Nexus 6.
At first glance, the new Moto G has a lot in common with the design of its predecessors. The shape is virtually unchanged and the handset still features the two speaker grills on the front. There’s a familiar 3.5mm headphone jack on the top of the smartphone, and the volume rocker and power/standby keys remain on the right-hand side of the display.
However, the back of the smartphone features a slightly different design, with a strip of plastic coming down from the camera lens to a dimple in the phone’s back. Motorola has also upped its game when it comes to build quality and it feels steadier in the hand as a result. The Moto G is now IPX7 rated for water resistance, which means that it can withstand immersion in water up to 1 meter deep for 30 minutes.
We also now have confirmation of this information thanks to the information on the back of the box. Additionally, it looks like the phone comes with 2 swappable back covers by default (as they’re pictured on the box as well), as well as the usual charging cable. This particular model has dual-SIM support, but that’s likely to be just for this localized model. It would be a pretty big surprise to the see the phone launch in the US with that feature. Back cover of the phone is removable to install SIM cards and microSD card. Battery of the phone is non-removable.
Perhaps the most notable update that’s expected to come with the Moto G (3rd Gen.) is Moto Maker support, meaning that buyers will be able to customize some of the colors of the G’s exterior. Past Moto G models have been well-received as affordable Android phones with capable spec lists, but if this Moto Maker rumor becomes reality, that could make the new G even more highly-regarded than its predecessors.
Motorola is expected to reveal its new Moto G, as well as a new Moto X, at an event on July 28.
