Press the Home and Sleep Buttons Simultaneously to Take a Screenshot
Ever wonder how software reviewers take pictures of the apps without screen glare? I’ll let you in on the secret: none. Just press the Home and Sleep buttons at the same time. You’ll hear a camera shutter (or, rather, the sound of a camera shutter), and your current screen is saved automatically in your camera roll.

Look Up a Word in the Dictionary
Stumped on what that word in your favorite novel in iBooks means? Wondering why your friend used such a complex word in a text? Look it up using the iOS dictionary. Just hold down on the word that’s got you befuddled, and then touch Define. Now you know the answer and can respond appropriately.

Hold Shutter for Burst Mode in Camera App
If you're looking for something to speed up your picture-taking abilities, look no further than the stock camera app. You can use burst mode in iOS 7 to take super fast photos by simply holding down on the grey shutter button.

You can also press on either of the volume buttons. As long as you hold them or the on-screen shutter button, the camera will take a picture about every half second.

Control music while surfing the web or using other apps
Double press the home button to bring up the multitasking bar.  Slide finger to the right across the bar and hidden music controls will appear.  Now you can quickly skip a song or pause without exiting the app.

Turn on the Accessibility Feature if you have Young Children
For anyone with young children or nephews, it will come as no surprise that youngsters love nothing better than playing with iPhones. This can be problematic, however, especially if your child accesses your phone and accidentally deletes an invaluable piece of data or contact information. To avoid this, simply access your settings and click on the ‘General’ tab. Then select ‘Accessibility’ and enable ‘Guided Access’ on your device. This is a little known feature, but once that can prevent your phone from accidental harm when in the hands of infants and children.

Check Battery Usage
Your battery drains in an alarming rate, which forces you to charge iPhone, iPad or iPod touch frequently. Don’t worry. iOS 8 helps to monitor battery usage and tells you which apps drain your battery most. Just go to Settings > General > Usage > Battery Usage.

iPhone keyboard tip
You’ve probably been using your iPhone’s keyboard for ages without realising that it’s actually easier than you thought to add symbols to your messages. Instead of tapping once on the 123 button and then again on the ABC button when you’re done, you can tap and hold the 123 button, then slide your finger to select the symbol you want to insert. Once it’s been added, your keyboard will automatically revert back to the letters keyboard.

Recording slo-mo videos
Our favourite video feature of the iPhone 5S is the slo-mo mode. It records footage at 120fps in 720p resolution.

Finding it is very easy – just flick right to left on the screen of the video part of the camera app until you hit the slow motion mode. However, we find it’s a mode few people make much use of. It’s the best way to capture fast action, or just toddlers tearing around the house, so try it out. The limitation is that no audio is captured in slo-mo mode.

Rearrange the Share Icons
Want to share interesting or funny photos with your friends, but the share icons are too many? Now, there is a way out, which gives you the power to rearrange the share icons to any placement simply by tapping, holding and dragging.

Tap and Hold a Link for Options
You’ve been in the scenario: you’re reading in Safari, minding your own business, when a link jumps out in front of you, tempting you to follow it. If you’ve got misgivings, you can tap and hold that link.

You’ll get a pop-up showing you the URL hiding inside that link. That pop-up also gives you options to copy the link, open it, or open it in a new page.

Get Siri by Holding Your iPhone Up To Your Ear
Not everyone knows about this one, but there’s another way to call up Siri that doesn’t require holding down the home button. Go to Settings > General > Siri, and then select Raise to Speak. Now the light sensor on the iPhone will detect when you’ve got the phone up to your ear, and Siri will pick up. It’s a handy way to use Siri in public without looking like a jerk.

Pinch-to-Zoom While Recording Video
If you need to get a closeup while recording video, you can now pinch-to-zoom. A white bar will appear, which you can then pinch or just slide across in order to zoom in, all while shooting video.

Search for Anything on your iPhone – Spotlight Search
Access Spotlight search by swiping to it (left of the first screen) or pressing the home button while on the first screen of apps.  Now you can search your iPhone for contacts, apps music, podcasts, video, audio-books, notes, emails, calendar entries, and SMS messages.  Use Spotlight to quickly dial a contact or launch an app.  Use Spotlight to search the web and Wikipedia.

Adjust the Scrubbing Rate when Streaming Videos
Thanks to the improved performance of the iPhone 6 and the larger screen of the iPhone 6 Plus, streaming audio visual material should be a more enjoyable experience than ever before as an Apple customer. Streaming videos through your iPhone 6 has also been made more enjoyable with the integration of a new feature that allows you to adjust the scrubbing rate when viewing content, simply by moving your finger up and down the screen as required. This effectively means that you can skip through advertisements and selected sections of the video up to four times quicker than usual, or much slower if you want to revisit a particular moment.

Use the feature toggles to save battery
A software feature Apple has seemingly nicked from Android for the iPhone 5S is a set of features toggles that let you quickly turn things like Bluetooth and the airplane mode on and off.

You’ll find these toggles in the menu that pops-up when you flick from the bottom of the screen upwards. They include airplane mode, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Do Not Disturb and rotation lock. This menu also lets you change screen brightness. These controls are the key to getting more battery life out of your phone.

Request Desktop Site
Usually when you visit a website on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, the server automatically serves a mobile-optimized webpage. What if you want to browse a desktop website on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch? It gives you an answer. Now, the Request Desktop Website feature is built into Safari. Launch Safari and enter a website in the address box. In the pull-down menu, choose Request Desktop Site.

Hide SMS Previews
By default, when receiving an incoming text message, your iPhone kindly displays a preview of the message. Needless to say, this is a great way to publicize privileged information (or embarrass you in front of your mates with a sentimental text from your mum!)

To avoid such situations, head to Settings > Messages and toggle off Show Preview.
