Latest Xiaomi Mi5 Arrive Next Month Includes Fingerprint Scanner

In the year 2014, Xiaomi managed to grab a lot of attention for its affordably-priced smartphones. Though we are not sure when we will get to see the Xiaomi Mi4 in flesh nd model, but we have seen an increased number of leaks that we are getting about the next flagship model of the company, which is being touted as the Xiaomi Mi5.

Xiaomi has recently confirmed that its new flagship device would be unveiled in January 2015. It is not yet clear which device that is. It wouldn’t come as a surprise to see much speculated Xiaomi Mi5 given all the buzz around the latest photos of the upcoming smartphone designed by Chinese manufacturer.

The new leaked photo seems to match up pretty well with earlier leaks. The phone features a tall and thin design with barely any bezels along the left and right sides of the screen. But the black variant makes it looks like the Mi5 features a truly edge-to-edge display that the white version can’t visually match. Of course, it’s possible this is just some clever Photoshop work, so we’ll reserve final judgement until the official announcement.

According to a new report published on Wednesday, the Xiaomi Mi5 will include a fingerprint scanner that will be built in to the home button on the handset. Hey, Xiaomi isn't known as the Chinese version of Apple for no reason! Of course, this is similar to the Touch ID feature used on the Apple iPhone. With all of the leaks and rumors, we suggest taking this with a grain of salt. Especially since each leak of the Xiaomi Mi5 that we have received over the last three days, looks completely different from each other.

The alleged Mi5 does appear to have a remarkably thin bezel, significantly thinner than its predecessor. Last month we reported on a set of spy production shots of what was supposedly the screen assembly for the same phone.

Relying solely on visual comparison, they do seem to match up, but the newly leaked photo shows a black device with a lit-up screen, making it nearly impossible to spot the logo and the sensors and speaker position. So a definite match can not be confirmed.

It is equipped with 20.7 Megapixel rear camera with a fingerprint scanner being fitted.

Now about its connectivity features, it may have Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and USB port. It is also equipped with some more features like Proximity sensor and light sensor. It is expected that the company may launch this smartphone at a low price.
