OK, let me guess. You think that your friend who gets more likes on Facebook has a happening life than yours.Awesome, cool, funny. <whatever> incidents don’t happen with just them. It is just the way they present it to you in form of status update on Facebook. Even you can be popular among your friends by being more presentable with your words.
It’s not even about having a good time anymore. It’s about showing everyone on the Facebook what a good Time you’re having.I have been noticing the engagement on my status updates for years and accordingly compiled this article to tell what works. Yes, I am that awesome
Don’t be Easy on Words
Personally, I love sarcasm and practice it regularly to the extent that it has almost become my second nature. It takes a twisting of brain muscles to understand. Not everyone gets it but those who do have a good laugh. What exactly is sarcasm by the way?Using pretty words which appears to be praising when actually you are taunting.
Create & Manage Friends’ Lists
Organize your friends in lists and control who can view what’s on your profile. Go to Facebook Lists Page and see the default lists prepared for you. Click on “Create List” to make your own.
Go beyond “liking.”
It can be annoying when the only interaction you have is the “liking” that pops up in your notifications. Leave a comment. A thoughtful comment. It would be difficult to maintain any relationship in real life if everything was received with, “I like that.” Or silence. Feedback, people. It’s all about feedback.
This means that you need to comment back. And I am very guilty of not responding to comments. But if Facebook is going to be “social” we have to talk and interact. Have conversations, ya know?
Some things perhaps don’t deserve comments. This hilarious site shows you what to do in those circumstances.
Pimp your cover photo.
Your cover photo--that large image at the top of your profile--is like a billboard that reflects your personality. (Not surprisingly, mine is a photo of me on the computer, surrounded by gadgets.)
You can use a photo from your albums, but if you'd prefer to use a photo of something else (like a band you love, scenery, or...puppies), many Web sites have cropped up to make it easy for you to find premade cover photos. Check them out.You can also create a custom cover photo on the go with your iPhone or Android phone .
Keep your “info” section short and sweet.
Provide little to no details about your life other than an obscure description of your job. If you have to make up a job, do so with a very vague title like Chief Shepherd of Ideas or leave that area blank. Also, avoid divulging your political or religious preferences because that can take you into dangerous territory, which is sure to dampen the fun. If you're going to include multimedia “likes” make sure it is something critically acclaimed instead of saying you're a huge fan of “The Family Guy” or “Jersey Shore.” When it comes to relationship status, writing down that “it’s complicated” will provide mystery and intrigue. Don’t forget to post your birthday (year you were born is optional)––that way you’ll get lots of shout-outs on your big day.
Make Fun of Yourself
I like self-deprecating humor, although I really suck at it. (See what I did there?)When you point out a loser in you, it appears more natural and real. People find it easy to connect and feel you are not perfect either, just like them.By making yourself a target, you can come up with some really stupid stuff without risking to offend anyone.Just be careful with how far you go. There’s a fine line between self-deprecating humor and an embarrassing cry for help.
Create a Secret Group
Make your own private space on Facebook and invite only people that you want! Go to Facebook Groups Page and click “Create Group”, then choose the “Secret” option.
Leave politics out.
There is nothing worse than seeing (or being a part of) a big, smokey blowout on a status update. I know you’re passionate, I know this is important to you, but politics are tricky. They find their way into peoples hearts and get all tangled up with emotions.
The result? Usually you hurt someone’s feelings and irritate others. And then you get blocked. Because people don’t get on Facebook to engage in a complicated political discussion. The best place to have one of those is in person, where you can at least see and hear the expression behind every word. And then you can have a throw-down on the living room floor, if you so choose.
Have fun with apps.
Timeline comes with a host of new "Timeline apps." In a nutshell, these apps share your non-Facebook activity--like pinning on Pinterest, reading news articles, and listening to music--with your friends on Facebook. Before you use them, check out my full explainer about how these apps work , and what to look out for before installing them. Once you do, you can start installing apps from this page.
Do not update your status more than once a day.
You want to give the illusion that you are too busy and cool for Facebook, having only just enough time spare to throw your peeps a bone with your update. Also:
- Use your mobile phone for any status updates to give the appearance that you are on the go.
- Update your status late in the day so that people will think you're out on the town whooping it up.
- Have your fake friends comment on your status saying things like, “See you in an hour” or “You are boss!”
Choose Who Can See You on Facebook’s Online Chat
No need to apologize. We all have some people on our files that we don’t always feel like talking to. All you have to do is the click the ‘Settings’ icon at the bottom of the chat section, go to “Advanced Settings” and make your choice.
Turning Off Notifications from Apps, Users, Etc
Have too much spam coming in from an event, a group or a page? You can shut notifications off by clicking on the notifications icon (the globe), rolling over the nuisance with your mouse and clicking X to delete. Faceboook will then ask you if you want to turn off notifications from that user permanently.
Get rid of Facebook's most annoying feature.
As if if Facebook doesn't already bombard us with updates in the News Feed, the company decided that we also needed a Facebook-in-a-Facebook: the Ticker. Unlike the News Feed, which displays status updates, photos, and other important events, the Ticker shows all of that plus everything else your friends are doing, in real time. This includes things they "like," songs they're listening to, and friends they're adding.
Comment on only a few status updates by friends.
Since you're way too busy to comment on everyone’s status, select one or two friends (real or fake) and provide short and witty comments such as, “I concur!” or “Congratulations!” Meet these out over time to give people a total thrill when you do bother to drop them a line.
