Finnish smartphone company Jolla has finally launched its Jolla Sailfish OS smartphone in India and the device is available only on Snapdeal for a price of Rs 16,499. The phone is available in Poppy Red, Keira Black and Aloe colours.
Jolla, as you might have already got an idea, comes from what we call the land of Nokia i.e. Finland and India has been one of the first markets in Asia to get the Jolla phone. " We have received tremendous interest from India for our Jolla phones and this played a crucial role in Jolla coming to India, well before most of countries in Asia", Mikko Pyyko, vice-president, sales, Jolla Ltd. said on the sidelines of the launch.
For one, there is almost no branding on the device – there is just a tiny “Jolla” on the top left corner, written in near-microscopic font. The Jolla phone sports a 4.5-inch qHD Corning Glass 2 display, running on Sailfish OS version 1 and packs a Qualcomm dual-core chipset with 1 GB RAM and offering 16 GB storage. It comes with fitted with an 8 MP rear snapper with flash 2 MP front camera for all sorts of video calling, selfie, etc. and a There's a 2100 mAh battery juicing up the phone and we do like the fact that, the back panel is removable. You can buy the new Jolla phone for Rs 16,499 from popular e-tailer Snapdeal. You can know more about Jolla and Sailfish platform.

The smartphone heavily depends on gestures and has no navigation buttons. Another interesting feature is that the phone comes in two halves. Jolla calls the rear half as “The Other Half” and claims it to be more than just a back cover. These are smart covers which can automatically change the colour theme, wallpaper, font along with some tweaks to the UI when changed. Jolla will look forward to further innovate this segment to even include solar panels. On the 2 MP front camera there are absolutely no buttons – not even digital ones – anywhere on the front of the device. That is because the phone operates on the Sailfish OS, which pretty much relies on taps and swipes for navigation – you unlock the phone by double tapping on the locked screen, you tap to open an app, swipe towards the display from the side to return to the homescreen, swipe downwards to take a call and so on. It's not a dual-SIM phone but you'll be able to access 3G/4G connectivity on the device.

The entire phone is made of plastic and when viewed from the side, seems to comprise two different blocks, making it look a lot thicker than its 9.9 mm width. That is because of the Other Half concept, which allows you to not only change the back cover but also customise apps and interfaces to go along with it.
