ASUS Zenfone 4 (A450CG) Review

Asus ZenFone 4 A450CG is a budget dual-sim with dual standby Android smartphone. It has a 4.5 inch TFT display with 480 x 854 pixels resolution. The smartphone has a 1.2 GHz dual-core Intel Atom Z2520 processor coupled with 1 GB RAM. It has 8 GB of internal memory expandable via microSD card up to 64 GB. The smartphone has an 8 MP rear camera with LED Flash and a VGA front camera. Connectivity options included are 3G, Bluetooth, WiFi and USB. It runs on the latest Android Kitkat OS.

Camera and Internal Storage
The camera performance sounds pretty decent with an 8 MP rear camera presumably with LED flash and a VGA front shooter. While the capabilities of the camera are not known, the primary snapper is believed to arrive with HD 720p video shooting ability that is decent enough for the pricing of the Zenfone 4 A450CG. Many of the rivals of the handset arrive with only 5 MP sensors and miss out on a front-facer, thereby enabling adding more benefits to the Asus offering.

The internal storage is 8 GB that is pretty high for a smartphone in the entry-level matket segment. This 8 GB of default storage space can be expanded up to 64 GB by means of a micro SD card. Usually, the sub Rs 8,000 priced smartphones pack only the average 4 GB of storage that is too low to store all the content.

Processors
The Zenfone is powered by an Intel Atom Z2520 dual-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz, while the Redmi 1S is powered by a Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor clocked at 1.6GHz. Both the smartphones’ processors are paired with 1GB of RAM.

Battery
The device comes with 1750mAh battery which has pretty decent performance. We can say that the performance is better than the Zenfone 4 variant. Probably this has to do with KitKat on Zenfone 4.5 inch variant when compared to 4.3 Jelly Bean on 4 inch variant. You can get a day of usage with the battery on this device if you are average user with calls, SMS, browsing, social media and a bit of gaming.

ASUS has done pretty good job with power management tools included in the Zen UI which comes handy if you are running on low battery.

Software and Performance
The Zenfone 4 runs on Android 4.4 KitKat and the UI is mostly similar to the Jelly Bean version of Zenfone 4. The UI on the Zenfone is called Zen UI which is highly customized but does not take a toll on the performance. The UI is actually usable and offers lots of customizations. The notification center and the quick launch icons are well arranged and you can even customize them.

You can sort the apps based on the ones you have downloaded and also the frequently used ones. It also offers options to lock apps so that other users do not have the option to access apps unless you enter the password. The notification center is really useful and one of the best we have seen on a budget smartphone.

In the settings, there are quite a lot of ASUS customized options and Power Saver along with the ability to view the apps which are using the battery. The phone also comes with a easy mode which makes it easy for elderly people with bigger icons and lesser options.

Price and Conclusion
The Zenfone 4 A450CG packs a great hardware for the money paid as the other offerings in the Zenfone lineup. The handset is available in a slew of power options such as Pearl White, Cherry Red, Sky Blue and Solar Yellow and Charcoal Black to make it a fashion accessory as well. On the whole the device is a good offering for its pricing as many entry-level phones misses out on a front-facer and arrive with low internal storage space.
